Around 400-500 women workers from Bhalswa JJ Colony, Badli (near Jahangirpuri) have been taking out daily mashal juloos
for the last two days against NRC-CAA (see the following two videos). They have been trying to relate this struggle to the questions of their precarious existence – of work and living conditions. These efforts have found echoes across religious and caste divides.
Since yesterday the police have been trying to intimidate them by targeting a few locals. Today 5 policemen went to a participant’s house and threatened his family members. He has been receiving continuous phone calls from police threatening him of sedition charges. Women participants of the movement stress that there is no one or two individual organisers of the movement and that it is a result of their organic collective efforts.
It is an urgent appeal to friends and comrades to show their solidarity to the movement and support the self-organising efforts of women workers. Today’s rally is scheduled at 6 o’clock.
